The NSBE Professionals organization comprises the Society’s members who have attained STEM degrees and have pledged to “inspire the next generation of technical professionals and serve as a catalyst for transforming the culture of engineering.” This goal is achieved by empowering the organization’s members to grow technically, academically and professionally, and continue to represent the success of NSBE’s mission.
The Professionals had much success to report this year in their programs and initiatives. Among the highlights:
- Sponsored NSBE Professionals memberships established with AstraZeneca, Boeing, Eaton, Lockheed Martin, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, Pepsi, Siemens and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
- $262,700 raised for national and regional programming, including the NSBEPro Leadership Incubator, the 2022 NSBE Professional Development Conference and the Youth Data Science Camp of the NSBE Technical Research Enrichment for Navigating Data Science (NSBE TRENDS) Initiative.
- More than $101,000 in revenue generated to support the Edward Barnette Jr. Community Impact Scholarship.
- $120,000 in grants awarded to NSBE Special Interest Groups for their work in critical focus areas identified by the SIGs.
- Collegiate Mentoring Program launched, powered by Mentor Spaces, an organization that provides a virtual platform to connect employees with underrepresented students to support the students with skills-based career mentorship.
- Collaborated with the American Water Works Association, Engineers Without Borders USA, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) to form a Community Engineering Corps. The Corps provides consulting services and engages in projects to assist communities in need.
